seoul

Okay, I can't believe it.

Finally in the "southern-part-of-korea". Seoul.

It's an absolute gem of a city; absolutely relaxed in an asian context - completely busy and out of hand in a western one.
Sort of like a home from home for me, really.

Yesterday I spent my first day in south korea visiting the korean war memorial museum.
A huge modern museum with amazing exhibits - the complete antithesis of it's pyongyang counterpart.
Heck, they even had enough electricity to power all of the rooms.
And, of course, they have a very different version of the events of the korean war down here.

Well, to be expected, really.

As for activities, I am currently staying in a very pleasant suburb called Seoyoeng. Last night I went for dinner with a couple of friends I know through vancouver called Chris and Kun.
*sigh* korean food - does it get any better?
Of course, here they just call it food.

I'll be helping my friend Chris at a kids camp for the next few weeks, and am very much looking forward to meeting with all of the great koreans that have come through vancouver in the last couple of years.
In particular, I will get to see my great friend Aeja from the good old days of latte subordination at St.Arbucks, London. And Hosea, too!

For now, anneyoghi

Cheap night's kip

The overcast sky will the enduring image pasted to my memory as I depart this concrete jungle known simply as Bangkok.

Trivia Warning, Trivia Warning.
(Apparently, Bangkok's official name is far less simple and is infact the longest city name in the world. Obvioulsy excluding the welsh, then).

I am soon to be spending the night at Hong Kong's new international airport, arrivals terminal.
Enroute to Seoul.
My first time proper in what koreans refer to as "the southern part of korea". Currently I am absolutely filled with anticipation, excitement, and other words that score big points on the scrabble board.
For those interested, www.sleepinginairports.net is a great website full of lots of fascinating tips and information on a cheap nights kip.

I will be able to provide a far more detailed update once I am landed in Seoul and have met with my hosts.
For now, anneyong-hi kyes-haeo!

Um. I'm back.

Um. I'm back.

I know, I know. Fallen a bit behind, haven't I?
Seeing as I haven't added to this since, well, April. *sigh*

Unforeseen.
"A blog" I thought. "The perfect way to keep people up to date".
"Especially as I will be away in foreign lands for such a long time".

Did not think about information restrictions in other parts of the world. Did norr think.

Well, nevermind that. Let me try to fill you in.
Let's see.
There was Hong Kong. Then China.
North Korea.
More China.
Bit more Hong Kong.
Flights went messy.
Currently Bangkok.
Soon to be Korea.
Followed by home.

Current mood: Melancholic.
Thinking about: What to do for dinner.
Soup of the day: Beef Oxtail.
Yummy.
