we're through

Well, we're through.
We got the result, although another less than scintilating performannce was yet again delivered to millions of supportive Englishmen and women.
we're in the quaters, although I can't see us going far playing like that.

Tactical analysis:
Rooney can't play upfont on his own. He's obviously a brilliant player, but that's not his game. Time for Walcott. Why Svennis hasn't played him earlier in less significant group games is mind-boggling.

Joe Cole has been all around our best player so far, although he had a quiet game today. My vote goes to Ashley Cole; really stepped up for the first time in this turnament.

He scored today, but Beckham's overall contributions have been pitiful. Aaron Lennon came on with 10 miutes left and looked 10 times the player.

Hargreaves at right back? Why?
Carrick? Not sure.

Lampard and Gerrard's contributions have been less than acceptable.

My favoured team for the quaters: Robinson; Neville, Terry, Ferdinand, A Cole; Lennon, Hargreaves, Gerrard, J Cole; Walcott, Rooney.

On the brightside we only have to win 3 games to bring the World Cup home. That's a big only.
